What Is a Maid Visa in Dubai?

A Maid Visa in Dubai is the commonly used term for the work and residence authorisation that allows an eligible UAE resident to legally employ and sponsor a domestic worker to live and work in their household.

Although commonly called a maid visa, the official UAE category is broader: domestic worker. It includes housemaids as well as occupations such as housekeepers, nannies or babysitters, cooks, gardeners and personal or family drivers. UAE regulations currently recognise 19 domestic-worker occupations.

The Maid Visa is therefore not simply a residence stamp. The legal employment and residency journey can involve a domestic worker work permit, employment contract, entry or status procedures, medical fitness, Emirates ID and residence permit. Current UAE government services integrate these employment and residency stages through the Domestic Workers Work Bundle.

The domestic worker is sponsored under the applicable household employment arrangement, and both the employer and worker must meet the relevant eligibility and documentation requirements.
